A Phased Backyard Transformation in Creekside, The Woodlands

A Remodeled Cohesive Luxury Outdoor Backyard Oasis In creekside village

A Complete Backyard Reimagination Built in Three Thoughtful Phases

The Lentz Project

The Lentz family's backyard had the bones of something special, but the existing marble patio, while visually appealing, was dangerously slippery and unsafe for a pool environment. The landscape behind the pool felt bare and provided no privacy. The outdoor entertaining space was limited, and there was no vision for how the various zones could work together as one unified retreat. What was needed was a strategic, phased transformation that would address each area thoughtfully while building toward a comprehensive outdoor living experience.

The goal was to design and build a sophisticated, resort-inspired backyard that would transform how the family enjoyed their outdoor space.

The vision included:

  • Safe & functional patio surfaces that complemented the modern home and pool.
  • Meaningful landscaping that provides privacy and visual interest.
  • Expanded entertaining areas, allowing for additional gathering spaces and separate venues.
  • Additional recreation opportunities for additional use.
  • A cohesive design that feels intentionally planned, despite being completed in phases.
  • Premium materials and finishes that increase property value and enjoyment.

A Three-Phase Construction Approach

The Lentz Project was strategically completed in three phases, each building upon the previous to create a comprehensive transformation. This phased approach allowed the family to invest thoughtfully while maintaining the quality and cohesion of each completed zone. Throughout all three phases, Envy Exteriors managed PVC drainage systems, modified irrigation to accommodate changes, and ensured every element integrated seamlessly, demonstrating expertise that most companies cannot provide in-house.

While most homeowners contact us to build phase 1, we will often design the entire project ahead of time to have a master plan for their property and ensure they can build everything they want as their timeline allows, to avoid spending money twice or having regrets in later phases. A master plan is crucial to the success of any phased project.

Design & Visualization

Before construction began on any phase, the Lentz Project was fully designed using Envy Exteriors' proven 3D design process. The family could visualize how the landscaping would create privacy and evening ambiance, how the new patio would look, how the fire pit and seating areas would anchor the entertaining space, and how the pickleball court would integrate as a final recreation element. The 3D renderings helped the family understand the overall vision and trust each phase as it was completed. This visualization was essential in ensuring each phase felt intentional and connected to the overall design, rather than fragmented or incomplete.

Phase 1: Landscaping & Privacy

The first phase focused on creating privacy, visual interest, and a beautiful backdrop for the pool area.

Landscape Bed Design & Retained Walls

  • Center focal point landscaping with elevated and retained modern charcoal stacked stone surrounding it.
  • Left and right L-shape landscape beds with retained modern stacked stone, lower in height than the center focal point for visual hierarchy.
  • Strategic elevation and retention create dimensionality and architectural interest as well as a more maintenance-free landscape.
  • Modern charcoal stacked stone complements the contemporary home aesthetic.

Landscape Aesthetic & Purpose

  • Landscaping provides privacy from rear neighbors while creating beautiful foliage views during daytime hours.
  • Thoughtfully selected plantings create visual interest and layered texture.
  • Designed with evening lighting in mind to create stunning nighttime ambiance and visual focal points.

Gravel Integration for Drainage buffer

  • Moonstone gravel installed between the pool deck and landscape beds to create a functional buffer zone.
  • Moonstone is one of the best-looking gravels available, providing both aesthetics and functionality.
  • Gravel area allows water to drain off the deck as needed while keeping the deck cleaner and more maintainable.
  • Creates a visual separation between hardscape and patio elements.

  • Unlike the previous marble installation, these pavers are designed specifically for pool environments and outdoor use.

Comprehensive Drainage & Irrigation systems

Throughout all three phases of the Lentz Project, comprehensive PVC drainage systems were installed and modified, and the irrigation system was updated to accommodate all changes. Unlike most outdoor living companies, Envy Exteriors manages both drainage and irrigation expertise in-house with state-licensed irrigators, ensuring seamless integration across all project phases.

    • PVC drainage installed and modified in each phase to manage water flow from gutter downspouts, deck areas, court surfaces, and landscaping, taking all of the water from the backyard to the street.
    • Irrigation system updated to accommodate new landscaping, turf areas, and overall property changes.
    • Professional irrigation design ensures all plantings receive appropriate water management.
    • Comprehensive drainage and irrigation management demonstrates expertise most companies cannot provide independently.
