They decided to remove the pool entirely and reimagine the entire backyard to truly serve their lifestyle. What was needed was a complete backyard transformation without the pool.

Because we were removing the swimming pool, the Winkel Project required a fundamentally different approach than a typical backyard remodel. A custom patio cover structure was constructed to serve as the primary entertaining zone with a full outdoor kitchen underneath.

An L-shape outdoor kitchen was constructed beneath the patio cover structure to serve as the entertaining centerpiece.

Complementary Cedar Arbor
A complementary cedar arbor structure was constructed to create a secondary focal point and design element to balance the other end of the yard and provide the homeowners with an opportunity to add a porch swing if desired.
The cedar arbor was constructed with stained cedar matching the patio cover structure, with two bullet sconce lights installed on the posts for up and down lighting, matching the patio cover.
The backyard Centerpiece: A Multi-Trunk Arbequina Olive Tree
Where the swimming pool once dominated the backyard, a gorgeous multi-trunk arbequina olive tree now serves as the visual centerpiece in the backyard from the center of the house. The placement of the tree creates a gathering point and the opportunity for a garden style landscape. Surrounding the tree is additional landscaping and black star gravel walkways.
Custom turf Putting Greens
Custom putting greens with unique shapes were designed and installed to create recreational green spaces for golfers and amateurs alike.
- Two custom putting greens with distinct, unique shapes for visual interest and playing variety, with professional putting green installation for playability and longevity.
- A custom chip-out pad was constructed to allow hitting from multiple angles to either of the putting greens.
