The Wood Project

Located in the Woodforest development, the Wood Project transformed an underutilized backyard into a refined outdoor living environment designed for everyday use, entertaining, and year-round enjoyment. This project blends handcrafted carpentry, timeless materials, thoughtful lighting, and high-performance infrastructure, executed by the team at Envy Exteriors.

Custom Cedar Pergola

The focal point of the space is a custom-built cedar pergola, constructed with solid cedar posts and top-notch carpentry. Every detail was tailored to the home and lifestyle, creating a structure that feels architectural rather than an add-on. All cedar elements were professionally stained using industry-leading Sherwin-Williams stain, ensuring long-term protection, rich color depth, and durability in the Texas climate.

To keep the space comfortable throughout the warmer months, the pergola was equipped with a high-flow outdoor fan and a premium pergola roof system designed to reduce heat buildup. Multiple runs of track lighting were integrated into the structure, delivering balanced, functional illumination that allows the homeowners to fully enjoy the space well into the evening.

Bar-high Serving Counter & Entertaining Space

Under the pergola, a high-top counter was built to expand serving space and casual seating. This feature adds flexibility to entertain for gatherings, food service, and be able to the backyard while staying connected to family and guests.

Travertine Patio Decking

The patio was finished with natural stone travertine imported from Turkey, installed in a classic french pattern layout. This timeless material delivers slip resistance, durability, and an elegant aesthetic that complements both the pergola’s craftsmanship and the surrounding landscape.

Custom Fire Pit Feature

A custom fire pit anchors the outdoor living area, built with natural stone split-face veneer, coping that matches the travertine decking, and finished with black lava rock. The result is a warm, inviting feature creating a separate entertaining venue, perfect for year-round enjoyment.

artificial Turf Area

One of the homeowner’s top priorities was creating a space their daughter could use all year long for after-school activities. High-quality artificial turf delivered a clean, durable green space that remains usable in every season, without mud, wear spots, or maintenance headaches.

Layered + Lush Landscaping

Along the fence lines, we installed lush, layered landscaping designed to mature over time, softening hard edges, blocking fence views, and introducing multiple layers of color and texture. This planting strategy enhances privacy while elevating the overall visual richness of the yard.

Low-Maintenance Modern Side Yard

The left side yard was reimagined with black star gravel and modern concrete steppers, dramatically reducing maintenance while delivering a clean, contemporary aesthetic that complements the rest of the project.

Landscape Lighting Design

Strategic landscape lighting brings the entire yard to life after dark. Spotlights highlight trees and architectural elements, while path lights improve safety and usability, allowing the family to enjoy the turf and outdoor spaces long after the sun sets.

Irrigation Modifications

As the landscape evolved, the irrigation system was carefully modified to support new plantings and hardscape improvements. The result is efficient, targeted watering that promotes plant health while preventing overwatering and wasted water.

Drainage & Underground Infrastructure

Behind the scenes, we installed a comprehensive drainage system tying together gutter downspouts and patio drains. Water is safely routed underground and discharged to the street, protecting the home, hardscape, and landscape with a clean, reliable, long-term solution.
